“I always wanted Chloé to have a positive mind, and make people happy.” GABY AGHION Born in Egypt in 1921, Gaby Aghion created the Chloé brand in 1952, in collaboration with her partner Jacques Lenoir. In 1966, she appointed Karl Lagerfeld as artistic director, a role he held until 1984, when he gained worldwide fame. According to Gaby Aghion, “Karl Lagerfeld has truly crystallized Chloé’s identity. Her creations, light, fluid and airy, reflected the freedoms and dreams of an era.” In 1956, she organized a historic fashion show, presenting her spring-summer collection at the Café de Flore, in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, around breakfast. In 1974, the house launched its first perfume. In 1985, Chloé was acquired by the Richemont group. In 2001, under the artistic direction of Phoebe Philo, the leather goods business was re-launched with the help of consultant Annabelle Volaire Levassor from AVL Insight Famous Paddington and Bracelet bag were born! On March 3, 2021, Gabriella Hearst presents her first collection for Chloé, focusing on sustainability with recycled parts, while enhancing its South American roots. In October 2023, the arrival of Chemena Kamali at the head of creation marks the return of boho style. The energy in the audience was palpable, and some images even went viral, such as those of front-row guests (Liya Kebede, Sienna Miller, Pat Cleveland and Kiernan Shipka), all legs crossed in one movement, wearing the same Chloé shoes. A real marketing genius, although Chemena Kamali claims that none of this was planned. On The RealReal, probably the most immediate barometer of our fashion desires, searches for Chloé increased by 37% the day after the show, and sales soared 130% in the following month. |
